GRANT OPPORTUNITIES

BOCLA’s Biennial Grants are funded with revenue from three primary sources: an appropriation from the Minnesota legislature, a portion of the annual lawyer registration fee dedicated to civil legal services, and Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA) revenue. These grants are open to nonprofit organizations that serve the legal needs of low-income Minnesotans. The grant cycle follows the state fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) with applications opening in January and due in March of odd numbered years.

The Board also manages pro hac vice fee revenue as part of the Justice for All Project Grants. These grants support a stronger statewide system for access to justice and are open to the courts, law libraries, bar associations, and nonprofit organizations. Justice for All Project Grants must have a statewide impact and be related to the National Center for State Courts Justice for All Framework. There is limited funding available every year with a rolling grant application process when funds are available.

Any grant applications that are currently open are posted at https://bocla.submittable.com/submit.
